Coburn Gets Hit on Opposition to Contractor Rape Bill

Tom Coburn's ethics keep getting fuzzier and fuzzier. Although Oklahoma's junior senator presents himself as a high-minded and virtuous public servant, his actions sometimes make you wonder.

First there was Coburn's no-I-didn't, yes-I-did actions linked to his adulterous senate pal, John Ensign of Nevada. If we recall correctly, Coburn once said he didn't get involved in Ensign's "payoff" of the parties involved. Later, he admitted he did play a role. (Read the story here.)

Now there's his vote against a bill to hold defense contractors like Halliburton accountable when their employees commit crimes like rape. Seems like a no-brainer, but Coburn couldn't support the bill.

Coburn's vote has been criticized, as it should be. The details are here.
